Longboards are surfboards usually in the 9' and over length, 21" to 24" wide, and 2 5/8" to 3 ½" thickness. Various rockers, tail designs, and fin set ups are available. Generally, the more rocker, the looser, more maneuverable and responsive the board will feel, but will be slower to paddle, and have less drive down the line. Flatter, straighter Rockers are fast, and project well, paddle easily, and catch waves easier, however, on the down side, they are less forgiving, stiffer to turn, and tend to pearl easier... Longboards accept a wide variety of tails and fin layouts from the original single fin, to tri fins, five fins, to thrusters, to the more recent quad set ups. With a usually more relaxed rocker, they accept a variety of bottom designs, from the standard vee bottom, to the inverted vee and double concave vee bottoms. Given the longer length of the board, a variety of bottoms may be found on one board to enhance its performance. Typically, I like an inverted Vee entry followed by a rolled flat section or with a little vee that runs thru the tail and split with either a double concave vee or inverted vee either between the fins or exiting the tail rocker behind the fins. Given a good rocker, these boards are often considered the most versatile of designs because of the wide range of performance they are able to deliver.
